PRESS RELEASE
28 June 2005

The British Library deems ‘East of England - space for ideas’ website worthy of national archive

The British Library has selected the ‘East of England - space for ideas’ website (www.spaceforideas.uk.com) as part of a pilot programme which aims to expand the lifespan of website material for centuries to come.  The UK Web Archiving Consortium, of which the British Library is a member, was set up a year ago to work on an experimental system to ensure that representative scholarly, cultural and scientific resources remain available for future generations.

The ‘East of England - space for ideas’ campaign was launched in 2004 by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA), to showcase the East of England as the UK’s ideas region where innovation and creativity flourish.  The ‘space for ideas’ website is a key part of encouraging businesses to think more creatively by providing access to the tools they need to grow their business through innovation.  www.spaceforideas.uk.com uses essays and case studies from leading businesses in the region as well as survey material and advice on how to take ideas forward to help stimulate creative thinking.

A subject specialist from the British Library said of the ‘East of England - space for ideas’ website: “We have judged this website to be of research interest for those studying innovation in business, with many useful case studies. If the pilot is successful the archived copy will subsequently form part of our permanent collections.”

Charles Kitchin, marketing manager at EEDA said: “It is a great privilege to be selected as a site that is deemed to be representative of innovation in business, worthy of preserving for future generations to come.”
